CANCER (First spotted this year) Rear quarter panel

1971 Buick GS CANCER (First spotted this year) Rear quarter panel
What to do?Note it was raining out when pic was taken'

This problem was caused by the rear window seal not sealing.
The water leaked into the trunk from the bottom of the poorly designed window lip @ the back window. From the trunk it went into the rear wells, mostly on the drivers side as seen in the picture. There are small popouts in the trunks' wells. I never knew that, from living in California. When I moved to Tennessee well, rain filled up the wells, hence causing the cancer to the outside from in the wells. Quarter panel or fiberglass? Suggestions, opinions?
Thanks

Thats a very simple repair any competent body shop can make. Your not going to know exactly how bad it is till the paint is removed and its DA'ed down. At worst the area can be cut out and a patch welded in. All that would be required would be a skim coat of filler if any. If your metal guy is really good, it will hardly need any.

After its repaired, they can paint it from the body line down. They can match paint pretty good these days. Should be good as new. No need to replace a quarter panel for that little spot.

Agree, a patch panel by a good body shop is the way to go. I would avoid fiberglass,.... that is BS in my opinion. Fiberglass is for boats.

I just had Sherman Parts make this patch panel....you are set.

Scott,

If you could, please understand that the word "cancer" has some very serious connotations in some people's minds. It's one thing to use with a buddy when you are standing next to your car, but in a public forum like this in can evoke certain emotions about people who have died and so on. Please be mindful of this type of thing when you create your subject line.

Thanks,

Bob,

Yes, I understand, However if you look more in detail in the title, you will see in the title:

We are talking about Restoration and cars here?
Not cancer in human beings.
That is what this section is about? No?
However, you are right and for your concern and any others, I will, in the future be  more mindful when using the word.

Thanks, and Happy Holiday's
Scott

PS: Thanks to the answers on my questions. Any more suggestions will be  gladly accepted due in part and the I am not a car body type person.
