I am so surprised no one has brought this up yet but it seems to me that the Sword of Kusangi did ANOTHER trick.
so far that means it can:
1) pierce anything but 4-tail
2) fly through the air at Orochimaru's will
3) possibly multiply (swords in mouths of Orochimaru's snake army - 294)
4) stretch huge distances
5) Turn into a snakeThat's a lot of skills for just one sword. It also makes me ponder if the sword is actually the snake: that like Enma could turn into the Kongou-Nyo, perhaps the sword at heart has a snake spirit od some sort.
The sword seems alive now...The weapon itself seems to be a summon rather then just a plain old weapon.
I liked it turning into a snake, it was a nice touch.
It was a nice touch. It was very cool ;)
Said it before...
In the original myth... the 8 tailed orochi had the sword hidden in it.
Reverse the myth... and you have the 8 tailed Orochi... hidden inside the sword.
I'm telling you... mark my words... The Kusanagi Sword is the current holding vessle of the Orochi... just like the tea kettle was the vessle for Shukaku before he got implanted in Gaara.
Mind you... it's just my opinion... I'm not saying it's fact or anything.. just that I predict that this is precisely what we'll find out later.
Please remember where you heard this prediction for later...
^ I LOVE that idea
I've never been against the idea of items being bijuu holding containters - especially Kusanagi being the thing that holds Yamato no Orochi - since Shukaku had been sealed into a tea kettle and all.
It's also equally possible that Kisame's Samehada is the holder of Isonade.

In the legend the 8 tails got the sword from someone else. Having the Kusanagi sword doesn't really means he's the vessel.

I said THE SWORD IS THE VESSLE... not Orochimaru... the sword.
I've this theory that ties Orochimaru, the sword, and the original character that Orochimaru is named after together neatly.
If I'm right... here's what happened.
-Oro graduated from the academy and got teamed with Jiraiya, Tsunade and with Sarutobi as their sensei for the group.
-Bell test
-Missions
-They become jounins... and kinda get split up... but at some point Orochimaru comes in contact with the Kusanagi Sword.... which has the Orochi stored within it.
-Feeling the power present in the sword, he studies it and finds out about the bijuu inside it... but that he can't put it in himself because his chakra system is already formed. However, he covets the power and tries to make a deal with the Orochi to gain some of it's power.
-The Orochi takes him over and drive him mad or takes command of his body somehow... and this is the Orochimaru we've seen ever since.
You see, in the original story quot; The gallant Jiraiyaquot;, Orochimaru is actually a really close friend of Jiraiya's (just like they were in the manga at first) but he falls under the spell of a magical serpent and becomes evil and attacks Jiraiya and Tsunade *both characters from the Gallant Jiraiya again*
Anyway, if this is true, that the Oro we've seen all this time is actually just his body under the control of the Orochi... then it explains a lot of things.
For example... When he had Sarutobi held from behind... his hand went in front of the kunai and he stabbed himself in the hand. Likewise it explains that tear he shed before he fought and killed Sarutobi. Maybe inside... the real Orochimaru took control for both those instants... but that's all he could do.
Wouldn't that be a twist in the story?
Of course it's all theory... and lots of wishful thinking... but... It just feels right to me for some reason. If the sword itself ever gets broken... I have the feeling that we'll see Oro change dramatically as a character. but he'll also likely die shortly thereafter.
-Just a few thoughts for you to think over.
hey,,, I don't think that sword was the kusanagi Oo

Yes, it is the Kusanagi Sword... it's been established beyond a shadow of a doubt
Well that sword looked more like a katana, the Kusanagi Orochimaru used to use looked more like a Chinese blade, I too don't think that that was the Kusanagi, unless it can change shape, that isn't the same sword.
The whole tea kettle thing with Shukaku has probably been retconned. It was also said that the Yondaime Kazekage was the one who sealed Shukaku into Gaara, but then it turned out that it was really Chiyo, with the implication that she also killed the previous Jinchuuriki by extracting it from him.
It's a nice theory, but I think that sometimes legendary weapons are just legendary weapons, and any powers can be explained through that. Still, it's a hell of a lot better than the idea of Orochimaru being a Jinchuuriki, that's for sure.

yup and its funny cuz it looks a lil different from when he used it on naruto, by the angle i mean so ya gt;.gt;
Irufitas theory about the orochi in the sword sounds lil more sensible after reading the chapter.

Orochimaru calls it the Sword of Kusanagi here in chapter 296, page 3 ...

yep... and the kusanagi has a shine... well I don't have any sure...
Well when you think about it, it was a match for the Thirds Monkey king staff(or whatever it's called)
it could possibly be another kind of beast summon that can transform into a weapon.....
I like the idea that the Eight-Tails is sealed inside the Kusanagi.
Think about it. If Orochimaru isn't a Jinchuuriki then what about the real Jinchuuriki with the Eight-Tails sealed inside of him or her? Even though Jinchuuriki abilities tend to be elemental rather than animal, despite the small animal marking, it seems reduntant to have two snake based characters.
It takes care of one Bijuu while not breaking the rule about Jinchuuriki so far.
I thought that the Kusanagi turning into a snake, returning to Orochimaru, and then hissing at Sai was even more badass than the giant snake wrapped around Orochimaru when he reappeared.

Someone has to mail Kishimoto with this idea... Would LOVE to see it happen! |
